Las Fotos Project's mission is to elevate the voices of teenage girls and gender-expansive youth from communities of color through photography and mentoring, empowering them to channel their creativity for the benefit of themselves, their community, and future careers. They offer year-round programming that provides their students with access to professional cameras, quality instruction and mentors who encourage them to explore their identity, build leadership and advocacy skills, and strengthen their social and emotional well-being.
We collaborated with Elsy Benitez, the Exhibitions Manager at Las Fotos Project, to create event designs for their Fall 2024 Culmination Exhibition: "Stories in Stillness." The project included social media graphics and event cover designs that could be adapted for each student group's individual exhibition.
THE CHALLENGE
We needed to create cohesive yet distinctive event designs for multiple student group exhibitions that would celebrate their photographic work while staying true to Las Fotos Project's mission of youth empowerment. Each design needed to feel connected to the overall exhibition's brand while allowing individual student groups to shine.
OUR APPROACH
Las Fotos Project shared their "Dreamy Color" creative direction, which we used as inspiration for all designs. This aesthetic drew from textured, dream-like visuals and vibrant gradients while maintaining focus on the students' work. The designs were created to work for three distinct student groups: CEO, Digital Pomodoras, and Esta Soy Yo.
Each design included student photography from the respective groups as the focal point, with added grain and texture effects to create the dreamy aesthetic. This approach ensured the young artists' work remained central to the visual identity while honoring both individual creativity and the collective mission of Las Fotos Project.
